I love the lighting in the garage. What are you using for a camera setup?

Nothing super crazy. Just a Nikon D3300 and the kit lens. I sure hope someone can hack up the firmware that recently came out for the 3300 so I can manually control the ISO for video. The noise is killing me.

What do you do for focus? What’s your settings when filming?

What’d you do to check valve clearances, or is this a well documented build where its not necessary?

I never knew an engine swap was soo easy. Watching your video I should be able to do it in like two minutes. lol

Seriously though, I'm jealous. I LOVE CRX's. I had an 85 Base model that came in Red. It certainly wasn't the fastest thing on the road, but it handled better than any car I've ever driven. It was like driving a go cart. I see yours is an 86-87. What the heck happened to the passenger quarter panel? That thing looks like it's been through a war!

I just rotate the focus ring to whatever makes things look good. Sometimes with panning shots I’ll manually move the focus throughout the shot to put emphasis on what I want the viewer to see. For these videos I’ve been shooting at 1080P, 30FPS, 1/60th shutter speed, and the ISO is auto unfortunately since I can’t change that.

Actually this isn’t the first engine of this type that I’ve put together. I just know these pistons work for this particular setup.

Yeah! According to this video it took me one minute and 46 seconds to do this. You should have no problem. :P

Actually it’s a 91 and I agree, the CRX is a blast to drive. This car was actually beat to hell when I got it. The night before I picked it up, the previous owner decided to go on a drunken off roading session and wrecked it. I’ve repaired some parts since that happened but have yet to address the quarter panel. Pulling the beer cans out of the car when I got it home was fun.

really enjoying the style of these.

Man, it’s easy to get it in without the exhaust and intake on, I really should have taken the time to break mine down further before my D to B swap.

Glad you dig it. Yeah, I usually pull everything off including the head when pulling these engines. For me it’s just makes the whole process much simpler and anger free.

yeah, a leveler would have been handy too :P

Kinja'd!!!

I’ve used engine hoists for all my subaru swaps since, but the honda one was intensely low budget.

Oh god yeah, levelers help immensely. That looks like it would have been a royal pain in the ass.

it was! oh the things I didn’t know back then! :D

I didn’t even have cool lighting or music. although a Reliant K CD was on permenant repeat, every damned day I meant to change it. But now when I hear a reliant K song I get a warm feeling about being in the garage

Haha, I know how the laziness of changing CDs goes. I wonder when I’ll finally put a new CD in the car...

I’d go in, I’d turn it on.... then I’d get greasy, realise it’s played through 3 times already, think, gosh it’s late I’d better go to bed, let it play 8 more times...

Haha. For the garage I have a stereo setup and a “garage” laptop hooked up to it that I use Spotify with. I don’t mind changing songs on that laptop since it’s covered in grime anyway. Maybe find something you don’t mind getting grease on.

my cd player died, it has since been replaced with a hello kitty alarm clock radio with partial functionality repurposed from my daughter’s room. I dare not grease up its stunning pink exterior :P
